Discover the POWER of CREATIVITY
and PASSION and Find Out How it Can
CHANGE YOUR LIFE
Before you read on, think about the word ‘handcraft’ and what it means to you. It could mean many things but I’d like to ask – did it occur to you that the process of creating gives you much more than just a new skill and a finished product?
Amongst other benefits, the process of creating helps to overcome stress, awaken motivation and promotes growth … transforming all areas of your life.
Does that seem a little bit “out there” to you? Well, let me explain it in more detail …
How many people do you know who say that they are stressed? Are you one of them? Stress is a pretty common word in our vocabulary now, wouldn’t you say?
The thing is … our brains are wired today as they were back in the days of cavemen. Whenever we are faced with a ‘dangerous’ situation, our brains still trigger that ‘fight or flight’ response. In cavemen days, the danger was real – if we didn’t kill the beast or run away from it, then we’d be killed. However today, our brains trigger that fight or flight response to situations that aren’t dangerous. Unlike cavemen days when our brains used to turn off the ‘warning’ bell once the danger had passed, the bell stays on and we find ourselves in a constant state of being alert. To put it in more technical terms:
“Stress response is regulated in the mid brain (primitive brain) where most of our survival reflexes are. The higher cortex (left and right brain) have an inibitory effect on the midbrain, ie it switches it off. Stimulation of the higher cortex equals less stress. When we do what we love, we inhibit the stress response.”
This is actually a ‘condition’ that has been recognised now as the cause for many ailments within our society. It’s called “SD Protocol”. The Chiropractor I visit in Maleny knows all about this and the most effective way to treat you. If you’re interested in finding out more, or looking for a fantastic Chiropractor, then I highly recommend Jo at Hinterland Chiropractic. Give her a call.
Take a look at this great TED-Ed video on Facebook to find out how chronic stress can affect the brain’s size, structure and how it functions.
So, taking time out to be creative (doing what we love) reduces our stress levels. We all know how much we need that!
When was the last time you tried something new? Do you see something on Facebook or on TV and think, “Hmm, I’d like to give that a go”, but when it comes to taking action, you just don’t feel motivated?
We live in such a busy world and, if you are like most people, you probably feel overwhelmed. When you do get ‘spare’ time, you probably find yourself lying on the lounge and just ‘turning off’ … but days turn into weeks, weeks turn into years and before you know it, you can’t remember the last time you tried anything new.
Taking the first step is always the hardest but once you do, you’re already starting to rewire your brain and awaken motiviation … and that’s even before you start being creative!
When you allow your creative juices to flow, you … relax, feel excited and enthusiastic, start having fun and feel more alive! Your perception changes, you begin to value things in a different way and feel a sense of purpose. Like all good things, you want more of it before you know it, your motivation will be recharged and you’ll be looking for more opportunities to feel good.
The process of creating something with your hands releases emotions of frustration, hopelessness and awkwardness and replaces them with feelings of confidence, gratitude and a sense of achievement.
Creativity is what makes you grow! It’s the food that replenishes your your soul, the fertilizer that your brain thrives on and the fuel that energizes your body. It can open doors you may never knew existed.
In a nutshell, the power of creativity and passion can:
Develop your brain
Give you a sense of purpose
Open your heart
